When you make a purchase through a foreign bank or in a foreign currency, your card provider charges an additional fee. This is done to cover the cost of currency conversion, processing, and more.
From 22nd September 2025, foreign transaction fees will increase to 3.14%. This will be applicable to cash withdrawals as well as all purchases you make with your UAE credit cards. Note that this is applicable to all banks.

With this development, all your spends or cash withdrawals outside the UAE will cost more. In fact, even if you’re simply shopping from any non-UAE website, you’ll pay more. While the percentage may appear small, it’s worth noting that the fee adds up quickly. This is especially true for regular travellers or online shoppers. For instance, if you’re spending AED 1,000, you’ll pay AED 31.4 just in this extra fee.
With a no international transaction fee credit card, however, this won’t be an issue. You can continue shopping without worrying about extra charges eating into your budget.
