UAE’s Credit Reporting System Expands as AECB Incorporates BNPL Data

Starting from July 2026, Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) transactions made through Tabbyy and Tamara will be visible in your UAE credit report. The update is part of the Al Etihad Credit Bureau (AECB) to build a more comprehensive credit reporting system that gives lenders a clearer overview of consumers’ financial profiles.
The change applies to both existing and new customers of Tabby and Tamara in the UAE, and will include all the relevant transaction history. As AECB incorporates BNPL information into credit reports, it aims to provide lenders with additional financial data to help them make strategic lending decisions. It also brings first-time borrowers into the official credit environment.

Careful Borrowing

AECB is working to strengthen the country’s credit reporting mechanism as new financing products become increasingly widely used. The Bureau envisions evolving the credit reporting framework with dynamic consumer financing options.

Tabby is one of the major BNPL providers in the UAE. Its repayment data is expected to help customers build a responsible borrowing record and create a strong credit profile.

Greater Transparency

This effort supports greater transparency across the banking sector while helping new borrowers access formal financial products. As per AECB, including the BNPL data with the information from banks, microfinance lenders, fintech companies, and other data providers can improve the quality of a user’s credit record.

The Al Etihad Credit Bureau is expanding its credit reporting framework to create a more extensive and sound financial ecosystem by ensuring that credit reports better reflect consumers’ overall financial obligations.
